Rev. Alvin B. Deer

Director
Native American International Caucus

The Native American International Caucus, a coalition of approximately 180 Native American ministries within the United Methodist Church, has produced a Native American culturally relevant HIV/AIDS awareness training project specifically designed for Native American communities called “Teen Empowerment.”  This training program is now being conducted on five Indian reservations with the intent of preparing these communities to train others.

Rev. Deer’s recent work has been in raising HIV/AIDS awareness among Native youth, which has one of the highest incidences of HIV/AIDS in the U.S.  He has applied for and received a two-year grant from the CDC to support this work.
